Two weeks on the job and Director of Media Relations, Joe Lang, is jumping right into his new position at Pacific.

Lang recently joined the university and said he already feels at home. The University of Oregon alum said he is finding the transition to be a smooth one and he is eager to work with the university community.

Lang has a diverse background in public relations. After graduating in 1996 with a degree in journalism, he spent 11 years in the Bay Area where he worked in Sports Information. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Director of Media Relations at the University of Portland. Since his arrival at Pacific, Lang said he has been impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the faculty and staff.

"I feel a great sense of energy and I feel very fortunate to be here," said Lang. "Everyone has gone out of their way to make me feel welcomed."

At the top of Lang's list of priorities for his new position is his plan to raise the university's media exposure.

"I really want to advance the university's reputation as a cultural leader both locally and nationally," said Lang. "I want to create an awareness and understanding of what Pacific has to offer."

Lang said he also looks forward to spending time at the other campuses as well as working with other departments. He considers the atmosphere of Pacific an added bonus and he feels being at a small university greatly enhances the overall working relationship.

"It is easier to work with other departments on a more personal level," said Lang. "This school seems to foster a real sense of community and that helps with making a personal connection."

Lang, a Eugene native and a Ducks fan, said he is happy to be joining the university at a time when it is preparing to reinstate its football program.

"Football is a flagship of college athletics, it captures the spirit of tradition," said Lang. "It is an introductory point for many students who may have otherwise known very little about the school."
