Two finalists confirm they are no longer in the running for Pacific's next president

Sometimes the Internet has all the answers.
While Pacific University officials have been quiet about who the next president will be, following the retirement of Phil Creighton in June, a quick look at the city newspapers The Tri-City Herald and Fayette County Union may hold the answer.
Why? The Tri-City Herald covers news relating to Washington State University's Tri-Cities campus where presidential finalist Vicky Carwein currently works as Chancellor, and the Fayette County Union's coverage includes Upper Iowa University, where Alan Walker, another presidential finalist, currently works as President.
Both newspapers have confirmed that neither of the contenders will be leaving their universities for Forest Grove.
The Pacific Index staff have been monitoring the local newspapers of Walker, Carwein and Hallick during the last few days in the event an announcement was made.
Carwein - who many at Pacific considered to be the favorite - withdrew herself from the race, the newspaper said, after discussing the position with her family.
“I do really like the work here [in Tri-Cities] , and the vision for this campus,” said Carwein in an interview with The Tri-City Herald, May 16. “We decided this was where we wanted to be."
Upper Iowa University won't be losing their president, either.
"President Dr. Alan Walker announced to those attending the UIU faculty and staff awards dinner on Friday that he is no longer a candidate for president at Pacific University in Oregon," said an article posted May 14 to the Fayette County Union website.
Walker and Carwein were two of three finalists for the position of President at Pacific University.
This leaves Lesley Hallick - provost at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland - as the only finalist left in the running.
Bily Merck, Director of Media Relations at Pacific declined to comment when asked if Hallick was, in fact, the next President, saying that he had not seen the articles in question.
Pacific intends to announce the name of the 17th president Tuesday in front of Old College Hall.

Thanks, Becca! You are right, it wasn't until after the newspaper was printed that we learned about it, Sunday night, the night we posted the story. You are right in your assumption that this would have been front page news, had we had the information beforehand. (Continued…)
