Beginning the last week of September, Pacific students and faculty will have to switch from the current MyMail e-mail system to the new BoxerMail arrangement through Google's Gmail service.
The motive for the switch is simple, "Google offers services we were unable to provide," said Ted Krupricka, Assistant Vice President of University Information Services.
Benefits given by Google include a much larger inbox space and Start Page, which allows users access to many applications such as spreadsheets, a calendar, weather, stocks, Google Talk, and more.
These applications will be labeled as "BoxerApps."
Students will now also be able to retain their address even after graduation.
Although the service is offered through Google, addresses will still remain the same with the usual @pacificu.edu rather than @gmail.com.
Users who forward their mail to another source will not need to make switch.
MyMail users, however, will have until mid-December to complete the transition.
An e-mail with a link to the instructions on how to make the switch will be sent to current inboxes.
Information on functions such as forwarding and POP can be found in the BoxerMail menu.
Any questions about the process can be answered in the Technology Information Center.
