Student beware: city cracks down on parking

Pacific University students will have to start heading to classes earlier if they want a place to park their cars. An email sent out by Director of Media Relations Joe Lang on Nov. 19 stated the following: "Enforcement of city parking ordinances on streets around the campus, including residential areas such as those on 21st Avenue east of Cedar Street, will increase.

Physics profs "force" to be reckoned with

Unbeknownst to many Pacific students, the physics department is currently conducting several research projects. Assistant Professor of Physics Andrew Dawes and Associate Professor of Physics James Butler are two such researchers conducting independent tests and trials.

Optometry gets due recognition for Lingel

Pacific alumna and faculty member Nada J. Lingel was awarded the Oregon Optometric Physician Association's 2009 Clarence G. Carker Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) of the Year award during the OOPA's annual Membership Awards Dinner held Oct. 23. Dr. Lingel, a professor at Pacific University's College of Optometry, was presented the award by Pacific alumnus Randall Corey , who highlighted her service to the profession.

Cuba travel course cancelled

According to professor Ellen Hastey, the spring travel course, Peace and Social Justice in Cuba, was canceled. A Cuba AyUUda group from the Unitarian Church in Portland, the organization that sponsored the Pacific travel class last January and was going to sponsor this trip as well, was detained at the Havana airport and then sent back to Cancun.
