The World Languages and Literature Departments are looking to add even more culture and color to the newly opened language center on campus, in the form of an approximately $3,470 painting. The painting is the creation of Ceija Stojka (pronounced Chaya Stoika), an Austrian Romani artist and holocaust survivor whose work was displayed in the Kathrin Cawein Gallery last spring.
There are two main resources at Pacific University for students with documented disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. They are the Learning Support Services (LSS) and the Student Counseling Center.
Students are behind and in front of the camera this semester, as the Media Arts Narrative Production class is in the process of capturing and producing three short films. The three films, titled "Hard as Nails", "In Memorium" and "Tracks" are being both directed and produced by class members, who conducted a search for actors, make up artists and costume designers among the student population as well.
Although the "stranger danger" policy is publicized and promoted on campus, a surprising number of people seem to be unaware of exactly what this policy entails. At Pacific University, safety is a top priority and it is important to know the facts so students can continue to feel safe.
Pacific University students will have to start heading to classes earlier if they want a place to park their cars. An email sent out by Director of Media Relations Joe Lang on Nov. 19 stated: "Enforcement of city parking ordinances on streets around the campus, including residential areas such as those on 21st Avenue east of Cedar Street, will increase.
Like most people and institutions, Pacific University was significantly affected by last year's collapse of the housing market. The severe recession that followed resulted in Pacific's endowment going from $54.3 million to $46.1 million, a 16 percent drop in value of Pacific investments.
Pacific University has been trying to find ways to extend another branch of interest to potential prospective students. There has been a conclusion that the addition of a business and management school to the undergraduate and graduate degrees will generate more student interest in attending Pacific.
Planning for graduation and beyond can be a daunting task for any college student but programs such as Teach in China provide students with an alternative option to beginning a post-college job search. The year-long program sends recent graduates of Pacific University to China to teach English classes.

Pacific students who heard the "whap" of a helicopter near Pacific's campus were listening to the latest in a string of murder-suicides to hit Washington County in as many weeks. On the evening of Nov. 27, a 9-1-1 dispatcher received a phone call from 28-year-old Forest Grove resident, Kevin Coleman.
