Some students may have forgotten about the swine flu over the summer, but the Pacific University Pandemic Flu Task Force most certainly did not. On August 17, the Pacific community received an email from the Task Force in an effort to insure that students, faculty, staff and administration do all that they can to prevent the Swine Flu (H1N1) from plaguing our school like it has others (Washington State University reported 2,600 cases as of Wednesday, September 9).
Pacific University is ever-working towards becoming the "ivy-league" of the west. With the release of third best college in Oregon. Pacific University has made the Forbes "best colleges in the United States" list for the second consecutive year. Forbes' and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP) assembled the rankings based on conditions considered most beneficial to the student.
As Pacific prepares to enter the next stage of its branding process, two staff members who have played key roles in the process are bidding farewell to the university. Vice President of University Relations Dr. Phil Akers said their contributions have placed the university in a good position and he is confident that the school will be able to build upon the foundation laid by the two staff members.
Despite talk last year of considerations for the approval of pets in the Vandervelden Court apartments, the Residence Housing Association at Pacific has decided that pets are still a no-go. According to Director of Housing Lisa Geraci, those who made the decision took many factors into consideration, including the remodeling of Vandervelden, which took place over the summer.
The Pacific University Art Department is now offering photography as a minor for undergraduates. This is the first academic year that photography has been offered as a minor, but photography professor Jim Florey said it's been a long time coming. "I would have several students coming to me asking why photography wasn't offered as a minor.
