One day after new record oil costs, and a slump in the stock market, Arcata opened an electric car charging station downtown. Funded by the City as a one-year pilot program, the station opened on June 7th, it has been in development for over four years. Mayor Mark Wheetley said that the city isn't sure what to expect with the new program, and changes are possible in the future.

Well known campus activist Jason Robo appeared in Boston court on August 19 in conjunction with three charges stemming from a July 30 arrest at Logan International Airport.
Robo, former Associated Students Legislative Vice President, was charged with disorderly conduct, interference with aircraft operation and disorderly conduct on a public conveyance.

A former instructor pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana in court Aug. 7. Sentencing will take place next month for Elaine Ilana Meiri, a former Hebrew instructor who could face up to three years in prison. Meiri's lawyer, Dane Cameron, will attempt to reduce her sentence to probation since this is her first criminal conviction, he said.

After an exceptional season in which the women's basketball team went 28-6 overall and 17-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, head coach Molly Goodenbour left the Wildcats to become the head coach of the UC Irvine Anteaters. Goodenbour departs after two winning seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, which included last year's trip to the NCAA West Regional playoffs, where the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves unseated the CCAA champion Wildcats to end their magical season.

The blaze that destroyed nine southeast Boise homes last night also claimed the life of an unidentified woman. Boise State linguistics professor Mary Ellen Ryder, who lived in one of the nine homes destroyed in the fire, has not been seen since the fire, according to KTVB.

A group of law students focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal issues will offer law students the first ever diversity-based moot court competition on campus this year, along with a host of other services. Members of the group Outlaws are organizing the competition, where students will submit legal briefs, present oral arguments and have a chance to advance to a national competition in Los Angeles.
